When you decide to eat and drink with the aim of nourishing your body, you'll be rewarded with a clear mind, and an energised body. Every substance you take in through your five senses whether it be hot or cold, soft or hard, rough or smooth, will affect your body, so only take in what it wants and needs right now. Don't know? REST for Vata's sake!
Factor in a lie on the floor for 15 minutes a day at least, to ground and reset during this time of year. Your mind and body are integrated, so when your whole being engages in your day, you'll feel great and make better decisions to take things forward.
Allow yourself space to heal anything that's bothering you - you want to rid Ama, toxic residue, before it becomes an ailment. There is nothing worse than being crazy busy then crashing while you're on holidays and want to enjoy life!
Your nervous system is categorised as a Vata type system and it loves and needs a lot of time to lull and rest. Allow the time and space to do so and you will benefit from increased immunity. A vata imbalance in Prana, movement, and nerves lies behind so many ailments. Get this one right by hydrating and resting and breathing and you're set to go.
So you'll be feel a sense of extra duty right now. Don't worry, we do to. Time is another Vata type principle and one which lies behind everything - influencing the subtle to the not to subtle. Set your own space and time. Literally write it in the calendar and honour your promise to your body, by sticking to it so you achieve your goals while remaining steady and feeling well. That's real success.
In Ayurveda, it is said that "disease starts in the mind". To explain further, this starts by making bad decisions, like wrong food choices, placing ourselves in environments that are not conducive to health, however, rather than dive "head" first and focus on healing the mind, it's often gentler, deeper and more sustainable to go through the gut which controls our chemical state, and so how the mind operates.
Conventional science has only just recently discovered what Ayurveda already knew, that there's a 'second brain' in the gut. Ayurveda focusses on the wellness of the body + mind as one.
Practicing daily self-care habits provides the path to the outcome as a whole-being and sustains it. You know what makes you feel good.
