There's a saying in Ayurvedic medicine - if you need herbs you've forgotten spices. Here's our favourite Agni loving Chai recipe, we hope you enjoy making your own instead of store bought chai mixes, so you can enjoy the extra value freshly ground spices give your body. The quantities below are a guide only and can be adjusted to taste. Try Rooibos if you're avoiding black tea.
1 tsp Tea per person + 1 for the pot (1:1 Mix of Assam and Ceylon tea leaves)
1 to 2 tsp Cinnamon Bark, left whole
1 tsp Cinnamon powder
1/8th Nutmeg kernel, left whole, not ground
1 Black peppercorn ground or 12 turns of the pepper grinder
4+ slices fresh Ginger
18 to 20 Cardamom pods, ground
1 tbsp Fennel seeds, ground
Replace the tea leaves with turmeric powder. For extra anti-inflammatory action, add a dollop of ghee or coconut oil to carry the active ingredients deep into ligaments, and tendons. Max dose turmeric powder per day per person 30g - you'll get amazing pain relief from 15g.
