The commonly used Doshas are a tricky way to approach your Ayurvedic lifestyle! There's a better way and it's simpler than you may think.
Contrary to popular belief the Ayurvedic categories of V P K are best viewed as a categorising system rather than tools that we can use everyday to make health decisions. Yes, I've said this quite a few times in the last month!! I really want you to meet the Doshas as a way of categorising things, then avoid using the Doshas to decide what's good for you - they can lead you astray and get confusing. You wouldn't think so in the beginning as they seem simple but then you can hit a wall!
If you're going to adore an Ayurvedic concept then please choose Agni and the gunas. Your digestive capacity and the properties of substances you take into your system are things we can tap into and work with practically to make health supporting decisions every day.

Focus more on your digestive capacity (Agni), how it's in sync with the sun, and trust in your own intuition as you find supportive community to thrive in. The way to begin improving your Agni is to eat Sattvic whole foods that are locally grown and seasonally harvested. Over time move to 3-4 meals a day, avoid snacking and eat a lighter earlier dinner. Intermittent fasting naturally detoxes your system and allows for repair over night, using the energy you provided at dinner time - what an amazing design the human body is!
The benefits of optimal Agni is that every substance you take into your system is managed well and either eliminated or nourishes you. Your nervous system relaxes, your immune system supports you and no Ama is kept in your tissues creating pain or discomfort. WAY TO GO!
