Cravings can be healthy desires. Read your tongue to see what it says about your inner health needs.
The October Space to Heal cleanse group recently experienced cravings arise in many different ways! We lulled our food bodies to settle our nervous systems. We ate knowing our bile follows the sun - we had substantial lunches and early light dinners to provide intermittent fasting for cleansing and repair overnight.
The Ayurvedic cleanse recognises the GI tract as a main channel of the body and clears the way for intuition to get a hearsay in what we choose to eat and do. It's a double plus because the way of eating that heals our lethargy, discomfort and multitude of ailments, also provides us with the clarity of knowing what to choose that supports our health every day. In Ayurveda we call this process Dri Dru Smriti where we learn and understand something is good for us, we experience it as our own knowledge and then we remember to do it again because we get wise!
What's healthy food for you right now?
Healthy food means one thing for you and quite a different thing for your friend. It depends on so many factors and here at AyurB we reckon preference is important :) But you want that voice of desire to come from your healthy place and be trustworthy.
I've never liked broccoli much, although broccolini I do, and it turns out there's a good reason for that for me - the stalk is solid and juicy and my system prefers that and the nutrients in the stem way more than the flowers on the broccoli head. Yes, we're talking Kapha type stem and Vata head.
Check your tongue right now by looking in the mirror or taking a tongue selfie! Do you have a crack anywhere? That means tension and it could be getting in the way of how you digest your food, which lies at the root cause of so many ailments. Do you have white gunk at the base of your tongue? That's Ama in your intestines and occurs naturally while you're digesting your meal but if it won't clear day after day then you've got Ama, toxic residue of undigested food, forming and that is where dis-ease starts! You won't be able to trust your cravings if your system is beckoning from a gunky gut biome.
Why am I craving that?
Question your cravings. If you're craving the following common food types then here's possibly why and how to curb them.
Starch - your system is likely dry and frizzled out. Have a drink and rest instead of having a pastry at 3pm!
Sugar - you could be feeling depleted and have low blood sugar. Eat when you can retain and absorb nutrients - you'll know when that time is for you ;) and how slowing your eating allows for savouring and nourishing.
Coffee - Do you have a sluggish system? Eat at the right time - for you that is! You probably know when that is already, if you're not sure then consider it and experiment. I can guide you in April when we hold the next Space to Heal cleanse and reset program - save the date April 6th.
Spicy - if you crave spicy foods you may have weak stomach acid and your body is trying to stimulate Agni but the message you get is askew because you've Ama muffling it! Have a ginger tea before your meals to satisfy all of the above in Ayurveda's wonderfully pragmatic way.
Sour - you may have weak digestion, assimilation and absorption and crave alcohol. Enjoy a ginger tea before your meals and take three deep breaths before you feed yourself.
I hope that helped you start to see why you're craving particular foods. Did it tie it in with any GI tract blockages you noticed on your tongue? WATCH THE VIDEO FOR MORE...
